I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
5.0
I can't believe I've only just read this book. Sometimes when you hear nothing but positivity for a book, it can build your expectations unrealistically high--however, the first volume of Angelou's biographies matched and exceeded all. Tender and agonising at junctures, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is a beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL book that will continue to move and resonate with many. The only place this book faltered for me was at the end of the book where Angelou discusses sexuality. The views are very dated and a little offensive reading them now, so the end of my reading experience was slightly soured but I stress the word slightly. This was still a powerful book that I loved and will remember always.
