Literally could not put this book down - I read it in one loong night. Just a totally devastating, brutal critique of the hypocrisy of our legal system. It uses anecdotes alongside facts/statistics in such a perfect manner, juxtaposing every story of poor people of color being fucked over by the state with another story of wealthy whites getting away with abhorrent, disgusting conduct that negatively impacted the lives of millions. I honestly feel like this is a document of early 21st century life in the US, and I hope we live in the type of society in which we will read this book 50 years from now in horror at how things were...
