Household Stories by the Brothers Grimm by Jacob Grimm, Wilhelm Grimm

3.0

The original Grimm’s fairy tales are true children’s stories. If you’ve ever heard a five-year-old tell a story, you know what I mean. They’re full of non sequiturs and random events. People turn into animals for no reason, and then turn back into humans for no reason. Go blind? Just wait for a princess’s tears to restore your sight. Shoes too small? Just chop off a toe or your heel so they fit. Think you are dead? Maybe it's just an apple bit stuck in your throat. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, and sometimes good things happen to bad people. The only constants are that step-mothers are always wicked and beautiful princesses are always better than everyone else. The only moral is that life is chaotic and unpredictable.
