I didn’t know anything about this book other than the bio going in. I know it was getting hate on TikTok, but this review is just about the book I read.
Honestly, it was ok. Really cool premise, but the worrying could have been stronger (I will never get over her magic portal wand being called a “star stick”), and some of the big reveals at the end could have been woven in a little better. At times I felt I like I was reading a really solid first draft. I think the author has potential, but the story was a little disjointed and the pacing was slow at the being and too fast at the end.
The romance also didn’t sell me. Can’t quite pinpoint it, but I didn’t feel a real connection there.
Overall, I don’t think it deserves the immense hate, but this book also ranks No where near my top reads is the year.
