All At Sea by Terry Deary

informative medium-paced

4.0

This was my 40th book finished in 2024.

I didn't realise there were new Horrible Histories books released over the past 4 years! This was my first.

I have to say, I think Deary has really improved in his writing, layout, and storytelling. I really liked the way the book dealt with slavery and colonisation, particularly. It felt very modern, dealing delicately and thoughtfully with these subjects. This is something that always bugged me about the older books, as they were at risk of aging badly.

I also really liked the "British Hero" section, questioning the controversial side of these heroes, as to whether they even deserve the title.

It was more graphic and gruesome than the older books in the series! I liked the maps throughout the book; something lacking in the older ones.
