4 stars -- Short, but satisfying. I was intrigued by what happened to get Tarver his promotion, so I loved getting those answers. It was tense, heartwrenching, and since it was him telling Lilac the story, there were some other things that make more sense now. I'm assuming a good set up for the rest of the series and the overarching mystery.

Honestly, I was mostly bummed it was so short even though it was complete...it's mostly that my copy had previews of book 1 and 2 at the end, so the story was only the first 40% of the book. Again, it gives me a false sense of the story.
