Incredible book covering Ellsberg’s investigations into nuclear policy and procedures in 1958-1964, and a larger history of how nuclear and strategic bombing became to be seen as not just morally-acceptable but a necessity. There is shit in here that will turn your hair white!
It is oddly encouraging, though: after living through a few decades where it seems like the worst possibility was always the one that happened, here’s a case where we have been extremely, extremely lucky for 70 years and running.
