Hitchcock by Alfred Hitchcock, François Truffaut
5.0
Fascinating, book-length interview with Hitchcock on his films and career. The interviewer is Truffaut, a fellow filmmaker legendary in his own right, and he coaxes Hitchcock to talk about his own films as a problem-solving fashion. Great to learn Hitchcock’s techniques and methods to crack stories, as well as the origins of memorable sequences. I’ve only seen about a dozen of his over 50 films, but still got a tremendous amount of enjoyment from the book.
Would love to see an updated version that replaces the stills with frames from restorations when available. The existing ones work well enough, but are notably fuzzy for some films.
