The Night House by Jo Nesbø
2.0
Too meta by half.
This book presents a really interesting Stephen King-style coming-of-age horror story in Part 1 that I really liked and found compelling. Then, it gets meta with it in the second part, still using a King-like structure and plot. By the time it gets to a third level of metafiction in the third part, I am lost completely. The book wants to be too many things at once and ends up not really doing any of them well. The exploration of trauma in the third part could be interesting if it weren't already trying too hard to be meta.
