The most impactful book I’ve read in a long time! “The Nightingale” is the heart-wrenching story of two sisters surviving and resisting Nazi occupied France. The book follows Vianne and Sophie over the course of the war, with chapters from a survivor (their identity is unknown to the reader for most of the book) in the 90s interspersed. I have never read fiction that paints such a clear picture of the horrors of war for women. This book is incredibly heavy, and I would recommend checking trigger warnings. But it is incredibly worth the read. It promises a new perspective on horrific events in human history and a lot of tears.
