tw - implied death in childbirth
out of these 4 cute stories, 1 was not like the others (I'm talking about Mother and Child, the literal last story).
I purchased this at some point last year with my own cash money through word of mouth recommendation, and it was definitely good despite the at times janky translation and spelling errors littered through my copy, very atmospheric and although not the peak of magic realism its a pretty good example for a modern context.
I also understand that not all stories have happy endings, but by jove do I want a single magic realism book I personally read to have one. I dislike the dying in childbirth trope— especially when it feels like its just thrown in for shock value.
