The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent
5.0
If you love vampire stories like “From Blood and Ash” or “King of Battle And Blood”, you’ll probably love this. It’s emotional, binge-able, and full of enough twists to keep you reeling (and crying). It gets predictable now and then, but it surprises enough to keep you hooked to the end.
At its core, it’s about the consequences of a morally grey vampire dad choosing to love his adopted daughter, and the misfitting of love in such a dark world. Watching the dynamics of familial love between father and daughter, and the later romantic love between a human and a vampire, is like riding a emotional roller coaster… and I absolutely loved it.
When you see how cruel and amoral long-living creatures like vampires or gods themselves can be, it makes sense that the best hero is a morally-mindful human. And this human is insanely kick ass.
2/5 spice in first book, 3-4/spice in second book.
