This book was pretty exciting to me right from the start since it is the first book that does not have an adaption yet as the TV show got canceled before we got here. Needless to say I was very eager to get into it and it did not disappoint.

Pretty much right away we get a completely new plotline introduced and I found this one and the characters directly involved in it to be very intriguing. The whole thing felt a lot like a fresh start for the whole series after the plot got very convoluted with the last book so something was very reinvigorating.

Apart from that we get a lot of what previously worked and that is the core crew of the Rocinante and just their whole dynamics with this lovely group of found family. This book had quite a few emotional and/or very cool character moments within them and your heart really dives into it especially during the resolutions of all those interpersonal core character plotlines which just hit hard.

Another thing I really enjoyed was seeing Drummer as a POV character for the first time in the series. Her internal struggle was a joy to follow along with and I also loved that she got to interact a lot with an aging political character we already grew to love a lot.

Overall I think the first and last third of the book were excellent but it dragged a little bit in between which does keep it from getting a perfect score. The book certainly does a really good job though in setting up what I think will be the final arc / endgame of the whole series and just makes me excited to see what will come next.
