Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez
4.0
I kinda wish I read the other books in this series before this one because it was a lot deeper than I expected. I wanted a fun light summer romance so that’s why I just went straight to this one… but it was farrrr from that. It had a really strong start. I actually laughed out loud at the first line, and then multiple times throughout the book. But then it got more and more serious, and kinda sad.
I still really enjoyed it though, it was a good read, Justin was so cute. Throughout the book, I didn’t feel that same chemistry from emma and it took me a while to realize it was done on purpose, because of her trauma. It wouldn’t have made sense if she just gave in to falling in love. I really appreciate how much work went into creating her character and story. I just read the Q&A and it’s really cool to see how the author thought all of this through. The house being a metaphor for Emma’s life?! Slay. I love when stories don’t explicitly explain things. I find a lot of romance books do that, and it’s what makes them trashy.
Honestly what sold me on reading this was emily henry being on the cover
