The Lost City of the Monkey God: A True Story by Douglas Preston

A truly wonderful read. Douglas Preston is mostly known for his adventure fiction books co-authored with Lincoln Child. Here he steps out of the fiction genre and gives us a true story of his journey into the rain forests of Honduras with a team of explorers in search of a supposed lost city of white. this city was thought to have been built by the Mayans or an even more ancient race of indigenous people. I found this book to be so compelling and absolutely could not put it down. It reminded me of some of Michael Crichton's non-fiction, it was that good. I was truly blown away by all of the dangers that the team encountered as they traveled through the treacherous forest teeming with deadly snakes, jaguars, and insects carrying various diseases. I recommend this to anyone who loves exploration narratives or histories about ancient civilizations. Do they find the lost city? Sorry, you'll have to read it yourself to find out. I'm not going to spoil it for you.
