Klara sees in boxes. This is important to realize. Her grid-based vision system is a clue for how to parse through Ishiguro’s narrative. The way things move through her grid is replicated by the way Ishiguro slow drips information to you. Like Klara, you may not understand what you’re seeing at first but, eventually, you’ll see the right box and the whole picture will form. The result is magical.
