The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro

3.0

I had the most peculiar sensation whilst reading this book. My mind felt somehow foggy or slippery, I struggled to retain detail of the previous sentence, but not in such a way that the book was hard to read. Quite the contrary, actually. It's really bizarre, given the way the story focuses on the loss of memories and the struggle to snatch them back. I wonder if it was deliberate? The story itself is an interesting fantasy, vaguely Arthurian, populated with knights, ogres and dragons. Much more fun than the dry stuff I've been struggling with of late. It's more than just a fantasy though, there's humanity, loss, loneliness, grief and revenge woven into it. I feel quite sad about the ending, even though it was the inevitable way to finish.
