I think this book would be more suited for tweens or teenagers, especially if they have a penchant for mermaids, sirens, and pirates. The writing isn't bad, and the storyline was straightforward and linear (to the point of being predictable). I'm sure the author wanted to put in a positive message that I think could be appreciated by younger readers. I wouldn't mind reading from the same author again, perhaps for an older genre? The romance aspect is quite muted, which I might have appreciated if only it was given more time to develop.
