It took me a long time to finish this book. Not that it was bad, but the beginning was so uninteresting that I had a hard time reading it. The beginning is mostly written in reported speech and the main character, a girl named Prudence, barely talks to the point that I thought she was mute which wasn't the case. I like getting attached to main characters but since she barely talked and had any distinct personality trait, other than being a fast learner and a healer, I could hardly relate to her. I couldn't care less of the pirates crew either, it's only when Prudence finally got out of her shell and got the main character treatment she deserved that I finally started appreciating them. But thank god I had the physical copy of the book. Reason why I forced myself to read through in order to not let money go to waste.
The worldbuilding is very nice though. I always loved treasure hunt stories, and couple that with alchemy and it becomes an even bigger cup of tea of mine.
The plot was very predictable. And some dialogues were juvenile and added nothing more other than relying the information that the author wanted to let us know.
The pirate's crew had more or less well developed characters while the villains were ... just simple stereotypical dumb and bad villains.
Depending on my siblings' opinion, I'll see if I'll buy the next volumes or not.
