I feel like the hype around this book killed it for me. I went into it hoping it would be the scariest book ever, but it really fell flat. The writing was incredibly basic, and the spooky elements were few and far between. I also felt like there were some loose ends, and the ending didn't 100% make sense. I guess I was just expecting more.
