The Big Lie by Julie Mayhew

4.0

I really enjoyed this book and the concept and plot was captivating and encouraging to the reader. This book follows the life of a young girl by the name of Jessika Davina Keller and her friendship with political radicalist Clementine.

I found the venture into an alternative world where Hitler won and made the United Kindom a part of the Greater German Reich interesting and raw mainly because the reality of this fictional novel nearly did happen.

I must say that what drew me initially was the punchy bright neon pink cover but on reading the synopsis I knew I had to read this book and I am glad I did.

Jessika is the second daughter of high ranking Nazi Herr Keller, a straightlaced proud man who lives in a very black and white world.

I did like the introduction of only minor of American Pop Star Jay Acker who made me think of Justin Bieber and the hype that follows him around the world.

Jess was most definitely unreliable as a narrator because she was so innocently naive that there was very little the author and other characters could do rid her of her rose-coloured glasses and reveal to her the truth behind the Greater German Reich. Even the end of this story showed that even having lived in a concentration camp her view of the world was still of someone who loves her country and its values despite her place at skate camp being removed and her chance at true happiness.

I have been left with more questions than answers. What happened to Clementine? Did GG get to go to camp? And who moved next door to the once influencial Keller family?
