Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

5.0

‪I was iffy about this book because of the hype surrounding it, but it absolutely deserves it. I picked it at my local library and it was exactly what I wanted and needed. The story is constructed perfectly. ‪Each part is necessary to push either the characters or the plot. ‬The world and magic system are very well-developed and logical everything just clicks. The characters could use some depth to them but they carried the story perfectly. The perspectives of opposite sides and different backgrounds of the characters was amazing, readers get to see different views on magic and the world.

I LOVE AMARI. She's the true heroine here. She's an aristocrate, but gave it up so she could fight for something so different from the beliefs she was always taught and she tries her hardest to deal with the new circumstances. Even when Zélia treated her like shit she grit her teeth and tried to prove herself. She tried to stay positive and encourage others, even when she needed it herself.

Tzain was quite similar, always strong and supportive, though I couldn't quite understand why he was so mad at Inan?? (I wasn't lmao) By his explanations he should be just as mad at Amari yet we are where we are

They were more of side characters really but I Love Amari so I gotta brag, Zélia was a good character and perfect for her role, I sympathized with Inan, idk what to tell you just read it and read the author's note in the back too bc that made tear up a little
