Meh. The idea of an underground butler team is quite fun, and I liked parts of the historical setting, but a lot of it felt like it had been done before but better.

I think the book couldn't benefitted from being a YA rather than middle grade: the characters felt much older than 12 and 15 and Emily
even got engaged then married at the end
and there were a few times that I think it could've benefitted from the occasional curse word that was worse than "dolt".

If I want to read a book about little rich girls from the past solving crimes, I'd rather read Murder Most Unladylike, which has a lot of the things I like about this scattered across the series on top of doing them better and having actual societal commentary on top of that.
