The Pact by Karina Halle

4.0

"I wanted people to close the book (or shut off their Kindle) and smile and enjoy the last five hours they spent reading it."

Well, Ms. Halle I'd have to say you definitely delivered. The Pact not only made me smile, but I truly enjoyed it. Halle definitely stepped outside her usual style with this one and I'm glad she did. If you're expecting a gritty novel then you aren't going to find it here. Instead, what you'll find is a light, fun great romantic read. Though there is definitely some angst - after all it wouldn't be a Karina Halle novel without it.

The Pact delivered on the "Friends to Lover" trope phenomenally. I was eating up every interaction between Linden and Steph - anxiously awaiting to see when they would finally kiss. While it took a while to get there, it was definitely worth the wait. There's nothing I love better than a book with a slow burn and this had that in spades. There was some serious tension between Linden and Steph - I couldn't believe they waited so long to act on it.

Not only was the romance great, but so were Steph and Linden, and almost all of the secondary characters. There were a few characters I wouldn't have minded slapping across the face. I know this is a standalone, but I would not be disappointed if Halle decided to write a book featuring some of the other characters we had the pleasure of meeting - maybe Bram or James and Penny ;)

If you love Karina Halle, you'll love The Pact. And if you've never read a book by Halle then I definitely suggest you check this one out. You'll become a Karina Halle fanatic in no time.
