A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham
3.0
This was kind of absurd. I gave it three stars because parts of it were really well done. But I called the bad guy so early I was just getting annoyed for the main character to catch on. Also I had a hard time with the ending because it just hangs poorly.
Full review: "A Flicker in the Dark" follows Chole Davis. When she was 12, she found out something about her father that rocked her family and her community. Now 20 years later, Chloe is a psychologist in Baton Rogue and trying to plan her upcoming wedding. However, young girls are missing and are found murdered. This is the same thing that happened 20 years ago, but she knows the murderer is locked up, so who could be committing the crimes now.
The book is just a long winding road of Chloe suspecting everyone (well almost) and at times I just found myself bored. We do get some more of Chloe's backstory (when she was in college) and it seems she has a lot of things going on with her that she's kept hidden from mostly everyone but her older brother.
I don't know, I think this was an okay thriller, but the book dragged so much and I got tired of Chloe of suspecting everyone and their mother.
The ending was odd I thought and I just thought that maybe Willingham was trying to maybe set up as a sequel down the road or something. I just found Chloe's story to be somewhat unfinished.
