The McDougall Program for Maximum Weight Loss by John A. McDougall
3.0
After reading his other books this was a bit repetitive and also a little out of date. There are people who can't lose weight because of health issues and it isn't because they are lying. This is why so many women with Thyroid issues get ignored when they seek health treatments. They are told to "just stop eating so much" and to work out more.
Sure a lot of people are totally unaware how much they eat and are misguided but women in particular who reach a certain age and have autoimmune diseases the "lying" mentality is what gets them ignored and dismissed. Left alone to try and deal with serious health issues. YES being over weight is unhealthy, but that doesn' mean the person is not doing everything to try to change and nothing is working. The very fact that they have a health condition and are being called liars and just won't be disciplined is like giving a glass of sand to a person dying of thirst. I am going to have to check when this book was first published. It sounds like it was in the 80s or 90s. Also if you have an autiomunne disease... a lot of foods to eat on this diet cause inflammation and flare ups. I wish it wasn't so but it is. Not everyone is going to lose on this diet and it's crazy to think since logically it's a no brainer this kind of diet would work. (For most) Low fat diet is nothing new. Either is plant based whole foods. Unfortunately some people who find they are struggling on this diet, I recommend doing the autoimmune protocol and find out what foods are causing you to stay sick. Its shocking how many healthy vegetables are the cause. That said. I do love the idea of a plant based food. In general it is the key to a healthy diet and weight control- over all health, some people will struggle with more inflammation because they have deeper health issues that still to this day go ignored by health providers.
