It Devours! by Joseph Fink, Jeffrey Cranor

Did not finish book. Stopped at 64%.
I love WTNV. I enjoyed the first WTNV novel and The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home is one of my favorite books that I read in 2021. I normally love everything Joseph Fink and/or Jeffrey Cranor do - all the podcasts and all the books.

But this was a dud. I DNFed at 64% because I wasn't feeling anything for Nilanjana, Darryl, or their relationship. The plot was a lot of running around without anything actually happening and the socio-religious subtext was more heavyhanded supertext. I'm an extremely secular humanist. I've never been religious and I personally think organized religion is a scam. However, I understand that I'm in the minority and respect that other people get fulfilment from religion. This book didn't outright mock organized religion, but it came too close for me to be comfortable with.

All that being said, even Shakespeare had some stinkers. I will happily continue to "devour" anything Joseph Fink and/or Jeffrey Cranor create, because they're both pretty fabulous.
