The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

5.0

"She gathered books like clouds and words poured down like rain." - Markus Zusak

This was such an exceptional read.

As my dad read it before me, he told me that it was narrated by death. In some opinions I heard from my friends they said they didn't click with the first few chapters as they didn't know who the narrator was. Knowing this before delving into the story was great as I knew who it was talking about and in which way.

Surprisingly I really enjoyed death's narration. Most times in an adrenaline filled book I find myself skimming over boring or actionless pages as I am so engrossed in a certain plot. With this narration however it would give you hints that in this amount of time down the road he/she would be killed or he/she would be trying to bring whoever back to life. This did frustrate me at first but then I really enjoyed it as I could enjoy it much more whilst reading it and I wasn't caught up in the feeling of needing to know everything that was happening.

A beautifully written book, it was truly marvelous to read.
