The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow

5.0

Oh man, The Scorpion Rules is a book that toys with your emotions. It feeds you sweet moments and humour and then within a paragraph can rip your heart to pieces. It's beautifully written with some wonderful metaphors and description.

As well as that the romance is between two bisexual teenage girls. Two girls who start as friends and whose relationship you see blossom into something more and support all the way. Greta's questioning her sexuality is an important part of her relationships in this book but it's not the most important thing. She's more focused on saving her friends and herself and it's wonderful to see both relationships and plot entwined together neatly.

The villain of this piece is probably the most popular character and he's certainly appealing. He's an AI but he's so emotional that he feels human. His utterances give him a clear voice from the beginning and I actually found myself liking him. Plus he used Loony Tunes as sage advice so I was thoroughly amused.

This book might not be hugely popular but I definitely would recommend it to others.
