Never A Hero by Vanessa Len
4.0
Okay, Vanessa Len injects a literal crack into her books, precisely the second half of her books, cause I feel the same way I did when I finished the first bookâfoaming at the mouth until the third one comes out.
The descriptions fully immersed you in the story from the moment this book started. We, as readers, learn about the world of monsters and just how much Joan altered everything by 'unmaking' Nick. Just like in the first book, things turn for the worse in a literal half a sentence, and the world is at risk again. Joan's story grapples with how she caused certain people's deaths and what it means to travel through time. While she grapples with that, she is also dealing with the emotional push and pull of two boys she loves, not remembering who she is, what she means to them, AND what it would mean to tell them everything.
During the book's second half, the world of monsters and the different timelines crossing over and pulling apart are revealed more to the readers, and it is devastating to learn the truth of everything. Len is entrancing when it comes to dialogue during very tense conversations and keeps us waiting for the next "oh crap!' moment. Her descriptions of the setting allow you to understand precisely how complex it is to travel through the times in the same place. I will be waiting on pins and needles for the third book because there is NO WAY there is no third book after THAT ENDING VANESSA WHY
