i got exactly what i was expecting from this book - a cute, easy, lighthearted, summer romance. with taylor swift references, of course.
wit and meredith were so so cute. i loved them + found myself constantly smiling during their one on one conversations (when they weren’t talking about the game). the small gestures and inside jokes between the two of them had me GIGGLING. someone find me a wit!
the vibe in general of this book was also so much fun. a wedding with a big family on martha’s vineyard during summer? sign me up! perfect summer read. this is probably my new go-to whenever someone asks me for a beach read.
the themes of grief and being unsure of what to do with your life also hit close to home. in case you haven’t noticed, i have a major fear of my decisions not working out! i get anxiety thinking about the future! okay that’s a conversation for another day, just know i enjoyed the themes.
if you saw my few updates for this, you probably thought i was going to hate it. i was so sure it was going to be a three star for most of the time but by the end of the book, it was really just one thing that annoyed me.
this stupid assassin game was going to be the death of me.
at first it was fun, a good lighthearted game for everyone to play. but then everyone took it so SERIOUS. meredith made it her mission to win the game for her sister, okay fine, but she acted like it was literally life or death. everyone swore it was the end of the world if an alliance was broken. wit and meredith just constantly talked about assassin this, assassin that - it actually ruined some of their moments for me.
everyone say it with me: it’s not! that! serious!
but like i said, i really enjoyed everything else. i got what i wanted from the book so i won’t complain. plus the cover is really pretty so bonus there!
