The Book of Disquiet: The Complete Edition by Fernando Pessoa
3.0
I read this in a way this book should not be read, front to back, as a novel.
It’s complicated. It’s a sort of “autobiography” or “diary” but written through other characters that Pessoa created of/within himself.
The book is described as “a unique modern classic containing exquisitely melancholy observations and aphorisms that ruminate upon the eternal questions.”
It’s…a lot. parts of its resonated and I was like oh, people really stay the same (criticisms of religion, society, feelings of doom, etc). My man’s like talking about daydreaming and living an internal world.
This read slow and it deserved to be read slower. I regret nothing. This is not for everybody.
