Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools: An Invitation to the Wonder and Mystery of Prayer by Tyler Staton
3.0
Didn’t love this book, outside of the last chapter on rebellious fidelity in our love for the Lord through prayer, I felt like the whole book was just another average book on prayer. Of course it’s always challenging and convicting to read about prayer but didn’t think the author did it in a way that was unique or different from every other book I’ve read on prayer.
All that being said, that final chapter was very very good because I’ve never heard anyone talk about praying being what sustains our fidelity to the Lord because a majority of the Christian life we will not feel the extreme highs or lows. “The most common condition found in the pew at your local house of worship is a general malaise of boredom”. He says just as Bonhoeffer states that it’s not love that sustains your marriage throughout a lifetime but marriage that sustains your love, the same is true of prayer and our love of God.
