Still Life by Louise Penny

4.0

Louise Penny's first book in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series , Still Life, is a very enjoyable whodunit, revealing the author's marvelous ability with character development, cleverly evolving plot, suspense, and evocative place setting. I was fascinated not only by the elements of the mystery itself, but also the cultural examination of rival Francophile and Anglophile people of Quebec, Canada. Chief Inspector Gamache is a noble figure, displaying professional and dignified deportment alongside personal idiosyncrasies that makes for a delightful sleuth. The people of Three Pines are murderously wonderful and I'm in hope of crossing some of their paths again in this series.
