Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
4.0
This book is a breathtaking joyride, a breath of fresh air in the Afrofantasy YA scape. Even though the plot is predictable and the writing somewhat basic, it’s fun to immerse yourself in, and enjoy the cultures, characters, and charisma of this world Adeyemi has built.
I had a bone to pick with some of the plot and character inconsistencies involving the quest they embark on, and the unnecessary romances that sprout (it would’ve been a GREAT standalone afrofantasy novel) , but hopefully these can be explored more honestly in its sequel.
Can’t wait for the movie! I want all of the Wakanda actors and directors’ hands on deck! #MelaninRepresentation
