Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé
5.0
This was incredibly good! A dark thriller that just grips you as you read. I enjoyed both of our narrators Devon and Chiamaka, and didn’t mind switching between narratives in the slightest. Devon is a reclusive pianist while Chiamaka is Senior Head prefect at the Niveus Academy, with nothing in common. And yet, the pair come under the target of “Aces,” who is determined to expose any secret that they may have. Uncertain at Aces’ identity and what they are after, Devon and Chiamaka need to navigate their senior year as everything seems to be crumbling down around them.
If you want a compelling academic read that is not afraid of tackling major issues, I would most definitely recommend.
