Dune by Frank Herbert

Did not finish book. Stopped at 64%.
This book became such a struggle for me. I wanted to love it, and I was intrigued by the world building and the political aspect of the battle between the Dukes Atreides and Harkonnens. However, the characters were so insufferable to me and I couldn’t find a single person to like, except for one character who was killed halfway through.
The main character is a bratty teenage boy who thinks he knows everything and is surrounded by people who don’t correct him and also believe he knows everything and is some kind of savior. Paul seemed so inhuman, not having normal human emotions. He didn’t seem scared at any point, even when his life was threatened. He also just treated his mom terribly and she just accepted it. Another thing that didn’t sit right was Paul and his mom using religion as a weapon to control people. This is not something I was expecting to read and not what I want to read.
The main villain was also disgusting, a pedophile and a rapist. Overall this book was hard to read because it was presented in such a dull way. I struggled to get through it for no reward and realized I didn’t like the book enough to slog through the last 40% of it.
