Loving all the mixing of genres and mythology here! We’ve got some secret societies and dark academia, magic systems, King Arthur legends, Bildungsroman, and some powerful discussions of race and power, especially in American higher education. Though the narrator was pretty good, I might recommend print for this one. I struggled to follow all the rules of magic and structures of the society. Our main character Bree is fantastic, and I love her. Excellent depiction of grief and loss in the beginning, so fair warning if that’s not your game right now. I felt myself craving more of a good ol fashioned YA love triangle lol, but perhaps I might get that in a sequel? Normally I’m tired of that trope, but I was digging the complex web of relationships here!
