Lure by Tim McGregor

challenging dark reflective tense

5.0

In Lure, we follow Kaspar as he lives a bleak life in a bleak coastal town, where life is even bleaker if you're a woman.

This book was surprisingly feminist, despite our first-person perspective coming from a 15-year-old boy. When a mermaid enters the picture, the men and women respond differently to her arrival. We get a glimpse of what happens when women no longer carry out their unpaid labour, and how patriarchal societies implode when these foundations are broken.
