The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchison

4.0

I can't remember the last time I started a book at midnight, staying up 'til the wee hours of the morn unable to put it down, eyes fluttering as sleep prevented me from reading it all in one go. This tale is not for the faint of heart; you spend the entire novel wondering if the main character is unreliable or not (because of course she must be based on the events that went on during her
captivity
), wondering how
perversions can stay hidden for decades with people being none the wiser.
I have read a book with a similar concept (The Collector by John Fowles), though this one was far more twisted and depraved, the subject matter more triggering than the book it pulled inspiration from. I may continue the series, but this was intriguing as a stand alone!
