✅ Forbidden Love

The Cloverton Charade is the 3rd book in author Sarah Ladd’s House of Yorkshire Series. It can be read as a stand-alone which is exactly what I did. Now that I’ve read the third, I NEED to go back and read the first two of the series! Sarah Ladd is a new-to-me author and I fell in love with her storytelling and writing. The Regency period ranks in my top 3 periods to read and this book is a beautiful addition to the Regency era.

The romance was a slow-burn which was fitting since this is a rivals-to-lovers love story! I loved our main female character Alicia Brannon. Her faith, integrity and her fight to pursue her passions stuck out to me. In a time when most men treated women as better seen and not heard, Alicia pushed the bounds in both her professional and personal life. Her need to prove herself professionally in an otherwise male-dominated business puts her in some rather precarious situations. Our main male character, Lucas Avery, is every bit the gentleman! Despite the rivalry and falling out with their fathers, Lucas decides not to continue the feud any further - in doing so, he unlocks a part of his heart he never realized was there! He seems to be before his time as he supports Alicia in her forward thinking and subsequent choices and actions.

The mystery and suspense piece of the story was surprising for me and kept the pages turning! I love a good ‘whodunit?’ story and this one had me guessing the entire time. I’m usually pretty good at guessing these kinds of plots, but I was completely in the dark for this one. The twists were so fun to discover!

Thanks to the generosity of the author, I was given a free advanced copy to read and review. All opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
