Tom Lake by Ann Patchett
5.0
Do you ever come across a book that feels like it's tailor made for you? It's no secret that I always look forward to a new Ann Patchett book. Tom Lake, however, holds a special place for me. 25 years ago, I was in the play Our Town for our school production. I fell in love with the play. I continue to read this time-worn script every single year. It's become even more meaningful and touching to me as time goes by, becoming one of my all-time favorite pieces of literature. When I found out that Tom Lake centers around this much beloved play, I was beside myself.
As always, Ann Patchett writes with an eloquence that she somehow manages to make feel effortless. I found myself sinking into this story like it was favorite cozy blanket, and I never wanted it to end. The story within a story worked so well here, and each of the characters popped off the page. I finished this book a few weeks ago, and I STILL find myself achng to travel to Michigan to traipse around Tom Lake and explore the vast farmlands and cherry orchard of this story.
