Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
5.0
“You have bewitched me body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. And wish from this day forth never to be parted from you.” (screenplay quote)
This book is like a breath of fresh air.
It tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet, an intelligent and humorous young woman who is not impressed by the demands of society or the arrogance of the wealthy Mr Darcy. At the beginning, Darcy appears to be a classic ‘proud’ gentleman, but as the story progresses, it becomes clear that there is much more behind his façade. The relationship between the two develops into a mixture of misunderstandings and unexpected changes.
Prejudices and misunderstandings of first impressions.
Social pressures and expectations.
Criticism of the role of financial security through marriage.
Romance.
Humorous dialogue.
Self-reflection and personal development.
This novel offers all of this. Although the book was published over 200 years ago, many points are still very relevant today.
A great recommendation!
5/5 ⭐
