Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig
4.0
I liked book two much more than book one. We get more POVs, way less repetition and significantly more action. After a few violent scenes were introduced, I was expecting a bit less luck for the happily-ever-after for a few of the characters, but no matter what was thrown at these characters, they fought well and I can appreciate that. Looking at both books, the story is well rounded and I can understand why Gillig wrote in her afterword that she'll miss these characters. They got to show more of their values and virtues in the hardships of book two, so I'd say that the readers had a chance to get to love them more as well.
Many love the magic system in this world, but I personally don't seem to like magic captured in cards that much. I can't say that the idea is not interesting or not executed well, it seems to be just me. All in all, Gillig did a good job.
