Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family by Robert Kolker

Fascinating nonfiction book that gripped me like a novel. The Galvin family’s story is an uncannily perfect anchor for the history, failures and successes of the medical system to contend with schizophrenia.
There are some sections of this book that are heavy on biology terms and a bit harder to follow for the average biology idiot (me), but nothing unmanageable with a little Googling. Well worth understanding if you’re interested in abnormal psychology in families.
