I’ll probably have to write two reviews of this book, because it was absolutely stunning and I keep having revelations about it. I keep saying this about books this year, but I’ve just been reading some really good books! In any case, Kindred is a masterpiece of science fiction and fantasy with an eye to historical and social forces that enriches the plot immeasurably. The narrator character, Dana, is a delight to follow; relatable, entertaining, and incredibly sharp. Kindred is both a great individual read and an absolute page turner as well as a fantastic inclusion to any set of reading on race, science fiction, or American society. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an entertaining and impactful read. Also, it’s well appropriate for a high school level, so would recommend highly to anyone trying to bolster a curriculum or find something for a project.
