The twists, surprises, and character decisions in books 1 & 2 prepared me a little for the last two books in this series. But I was still kept on my toes.
The 3rd & 4th books in the series were consistently great, full of surprises and scares, gentleness and richness of humanity and world-building. A truly great series.
