This one had been on my shelf for years from a pile I think my mother in law gave me. Seeing the trailer for the Netflix series reminded me I hadn't read it yet.
I know many people adore this book. For me, it was a slog that I only really enjoyed in the last 6 pages.
I wasn't keen on any of the characters - even the side ones (other than little Jasmine of course), but I NEEDED to know what happened......and when I did was absolutely raging at the author at what did happen, because that was not why I had continued reading, a fact confirmed to me in those final 6 pages. I will say I thought the language/writing was beautiful in places as a positive.
I'm sorry if my review offends anyone who adores this book, but it won't be one staying on my shelves for a reread. Glad I read it, but it isn't among my favourites.
