I don’t know how to put my thoughts into words because this book ruined me in every way. Although it’s an incredibly devastating story of the cycle of trauma and abuse, there is so much love shared between this family.

Following the perspective of Betty as a child adds a lot of character to the book, I really don’t think I would have enjoyed reading it as much if it had been any other way. There is such a pure and innocent quality to all the heartbreak in this novel which is just devastating.

I loved every second of Betty, it’s an immediate favourite of mine.
