As someone who is scared of epic-ish fantasy, this story did nothing to scare me and everything to keep me reading. The story unfolded with such care that I was never intimidated. It planted so many seeds that I am dying to uncover and tugged at my heart with these damn dogs!! Speculative fantasy I am discovering is really my thing. I could imagine future installments being an easy 5 stars.
